Strength Hides Weakness

My yoga family! We came together to learn how to share the gift of yoga, and we found strength in ourselves through each other

Nothing is celebrated more than strength in our society. Whether it is physical or fiscal, strength and those who possess it are deemed successful and admired as people to emulate.

Outward strength never tells the whole story though. Very often, the inside of the strongest personas is weak and fragile. Bravado covers up insecurity.

There is perceived strength in numbers. People in groups are always much more confident than those who walk alone. Having status on social media platforms or as a public personality on television or in the media allows people to feel important, to have the ability to influence others in a multitude of ways.

It’s neither good nor bad. But it is important to remember that everything anyone does is a reflection of their own accumulated experiences and how they reference life.

Accept It to Change It

You can turn your ship around if you aren’t travelling in the direction you want to go

As you read this, in this moment, take a look around you.

Are you okay right now?

What does your life situation look like? Is there enough food for you to eat, do you have a roof over your head, are you feeling safe?

If you can answer yes to these questions, then you are a very wealthy person indeed. If any of these is a no, then right now is the time to take action towards changing it.

You need to know where you are before you can get to where you would like to go.

Most of us have it pretty good. Compared to what our ancestors dealt with in terms of comfort and ease of life we have many advantages. We have electricity, computers, transportation, protection, and multiple other useful things that allow us to live with some security and comfort.

Now it is time to work on what is happening inside.

Take It Easy

Maybe it’s because I grew up in the country that when I am in nature, I always feel complete and total peace

Is it okay to just be okay?

It feels like everyone is rushing around educating themselves, promoting themselves, and working hard to achieve goals and dreams and wealth and status.

Is it ever okay though to just be content with a life of ease instead of achievement?

You can feel you are lazy if you aren’t working, raising a family, building a side hustle, gaining clout on social media, and being so busy you can’t even think about what you already have.

There is so much going on in the world right now. Everything is moving so quickly, it’s like being in the middle of a tornado feeling helplessly swept away while compelled to keep whirling at a high rate of speed.

Spending Time With You

This is the beach I walked in Puerto Rico for hours every day. There was nothing to do but be me

Do you ever take the time to be with yourself, with no distractions from anything electronic and no one else around you?

I have. It’s not easy at first, but it changed everything about me the more I did it.

It was necessary for me to travel to do this. That is why I spent so much time walking on beaches in various countries, thinking and not thinking at the same time.

I learned a lot about myself and about the world during those hours. It was a necessary part of my evolution and leaving the old me behind.

Not everyone has the luxury of losing the world to find themselves though. There are obligations, family responsibilities, and just the day-to-day negotiations that are a necessary part of living in society.

We have things to do, stuff to buy, money to make and kids to raise. We need to do more, get more, and be more than what we are right now.

Because apparently who we are just isn’t good enough. The funny thing is, it never will be.

Moving On

My last morning in Barbados – not easy to leave but always able to come back

I write often about accepting the past as having been a necessary part in our growth to become who we are meant to be. It’s a big subject that can cause a great deal of discomfort for many people.

No one said that life was going to be fair, and there are no intellectual reasons for things to happen the way they do. Life just is what it is.

There are a lot of us who still carry the wounds of days gone by, using them to limit and define who we allow ourselves to be now.
