I have a healthy respect for odds. Coming from a gambling background, I know how important it is to get the odds in your favour.
This isn’t about gambling though, but it could be. These are just some thoughts about life.
Five Ways To Stack the Odds In Your Favour
- Don’t believe everything you hear or read, and only believe about half of what you see. There is a slant to every bit of information we get. There are hidden agendas, secret motives and personal interests that are woven through everything that is presented publicly. Don’t take anything at face value.
- Trust your intuition. Within yourself is an intelligence far beyond anything we understand. It is always right, whatever right is for you in that moment. Learn to check in with your emotions and your internal feelings and trust them. There is a reason for everything, and we are given this guidance to take us where we need to go, to learn what we need to learn.
- Everyone wants your money. Sad to say, but it’s true. Big companies want your money, the government wants your money, the people around you want your money. Give it to them only when you are sure about what you are getting in return. To stay out of jail you have to pay taxes to the government, so that is a good reason. Everyone else needs to wait until you have time to check in with your intuition and see if it is right for you.
- Believe it when people tell you who they are. Don’t think for one second that someone will change for you, or that the person is really just misunderstood or a diamond in the rough. Most people will tell you who they are within the first five minutes. Believe them.
- Don’t take anything too seriously. Things come and go, seasons change, and we change too. By holding onto things and demanding that they stay the same as they were the day before, you stifle their growth and the natural ebbs and flows of life. You also set yourself up for a lot of disappointment and unhappiness. Allow everything to be what it wants to be, because it is going to regardless of your opinions. The idea of control is an illusion anyways.
Be the best you can be in every moment, trust that it is enough, and don’t squeeze life into your imagined box. Allow everything to flow and enjoy the ride.
