We are creators. It is a natural part of being human.
It is amazing how we can use the power of imagination to entertain ourselves.
As children, we use our imagination to play make-believe and to take ordinary items like cardboard boxes and turn them into castles or fortresses or spaceships.
Even as adults, this need to be creative never leaves. Some people find their expression through artistic pursuits, others start companies out of ideas, and others like to decorate their house or wear clothes expressing their style.
Whatever it is, we all do it in some way, or we all have the potential to do it.
Whether it is singing, writing, doodling or inventing something, we all have an affinity towards some form of creating. Sometimes you can take these creative hobbies and turn them into a business. Sometimes you just do it for yourself because you enjoy it.
Either way, it is an important part of being a healthy, well-rounded individual when creativity is allowed to flow without restrictions.
Limiting the personal creativity that lies within you stifles this need for expression. Sometimes it is because you think that what you do isn’t good enough, or someone at some point told you that you are terrible at it.
Free yourself from the judgment of others by knowing that it is their fear to express their own creativity that causes them to judge and to inflict pain on others.
If you weren’t fortunate to have people in your life who encouraged your natural expression, then as an adult you need to be your own support system. Allow yourself to do something you enjoy, and don’t impose any expectations on it.
If you want to paint, then paint. It doesn’t need to be a masterpiece so long as you enjoy the process.
Anything that takes you out of the thinking space of the mind and brings a peaceful feeling within is exactly what you need to do. These creative moments feel natural and spontaneous and liberating.
Silence the critics, whether they are outside of you or within your own mind. Watch children play and appreciate the freedom they bring to every task they pursue.
That is our natural state of being. We are not here only to survive, but to thrive.
Take some time to remember what you liked to do when you were very young. Childhood memories can bring up many feelings, some pleasant and some not. Look for the pleasant ones even if they were few.
If these memories fill you only with pain and resentment, then this is baggage that you carry to this day. It is imperative to do the work to be able to move beyond this.
Peace will elude you until you are able to accept whatever happened in the past and to release it as no longer being a part of who you are now.
Creative expression will allow you to come fully into the present, which is all that exists. It will assist you in finding clarity and joy, which is a beautiful state in which to live.
