Someone asked me once how to stay motivated. Life had become repetitive for him, and he was losing interest in doing anything other than what absolutely had to be done to just get by.
What a tremendous waste of a life that is finite in nature.
This apathy comes from being unaware of who you are and what you are here to do. We all have special skills that contribute to the evolution of consciousness and to the world, and these abilities are unique to you.
Once you realize this, the idea of just putting in time or waiting for some future moment when everything is suddenly going to be magical and wonderful seems absurd.
There is no future, only this moment. It will never not be this moment. Try as you might, living in the past or the future is simply a drama that you play out in your own mind.
It is completely unreal.
To really grasp this, think of pinching yourself tomorrow. You can say that at 11:00, I am going to pinch myself. So when you do it, is it going to be 11:00 tomorrow or is it going to be now?
You can do the same thing with the past. It is why arguing with people about how events unfolded is pointless. Every person processes his personal reality in a unique way, and the recollections that come through these filters are always coloured by the personality.
In other words, no two people will see or remember a situation in exactly the same way.
It is also true that what you believe is real is what you will see in the world around you. This is because your attention is hooked into supporting your belief, so anything that doesn’t corroborate the story goes unnoticed.
An example – if you buy a new car, suddenly you notice all of the other cars like yours on the road. You never saw so many of them before. Of course they were always there, but when something becomes the point of your focus then the physical senses find evidence of it everywhere.
If you believe the world to be a harsh and unfair place, full of danger and atrocity, then you will find evidence of this wherever you look. You will be drawn to news stories or television shows that support this view.
If you believe the opposite to be true, that there is peace and love and beauty all around you, then simple things like a sunrise or a baby laughing will hook your attention.
It seems too simplistic to be true, but you really do see what you believe. You spend time gathering evidence to justify your beliefs, whether they serve you or not.
It is difficult to cultivate peace when you focus on conflict. That is why wars don’t solve anything. They create a sense of justified hatred that frames the actions of those who feel wronged.
Does it not seem insane that battles from centuries ago are still being played out in various regions of the world?
By becoming aware of what you are focusing on in this moment, which is eternal, you can begin to see things in a completely different way.
You can change your point of attraction in an instant, and by doing this change the fabric of your life forever.
Nothing feels as good as being peaceful does. Allow yourself to be the peace you want to see in the world.
