#33 Believe That You Can

They never believe that they aren’t successful swans

When you wake up, what kinds of thoughts begin to flow through your mind? Do you feel optimism or doubt, joy or dread? Is there a moment when you feel peaceful, then suddenly you remember all of the things that aren’t going well and the peace is gone?

The few moments right after we wake up and just before we go to sleep are useful for beginning to use the creative power that we all possess. If you can set the tone of success in the first few minutes after waking up, it can change the entire flow of your day.

Action – If you are better at coming up with reasons why you can’t do something than why you can, you are limiting the creative power of your mind to look for solutions. Get out of your own way and out of the habit of crushing your dreams. Whether you believe you can or cannot do something, you are right.

Steps – Spend time today suspending disbelief and asking yourself different questions. If there is a problem that you are dealing with, ask how it can be solved. If the first answer you come up with is “I don’t know”, then ask a new question. If you did know how to solve the problem, what would you do? Continue to assume that there is a solution and give your mind a chance to find it.

When you believe that there is no way out of something, you have built yourself a prison. Your beliefs can either support you through life or can stop you from ever trying to do what you want to do. It is your choice.

Why It Makes You Feel Better – Once you lose hope in anything then the game has come to an end. Not only will you stop trying to find answers, even if the solution was right under your nose you wouldn’t see it. Whatever you look for is what you will find and your belief is the map that will guide you there. When you believe that things won’t get better, they won’t.

When you lose hope, you lose the ability to dream a brighter future. You cease to care about your life and about those around you. It leads to feelings of helplessness and depression. The human spirit is strong and resilient, but once you lose faith it becomes extremely difficult to do anything.

Example – Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.” Hope and belief is the essence of who we are. Every morning when we wake up, we can expect to live a day filled with joy and positivity and the opportunity to achieve all we wish to see in our lives. Or, we can choose to find reasons to feel hopeless. There is no strength to be found when you stop believing.

It is far more enjoyable of a life when you look for the possibilities and not the problems. Accept that there will be challenges along the way, but believe that no matter what happens, you will be able to deal with it. Spend today wondering what it would be like if your dreams did come true.
