I’m feeling inspired to change things up a bit here. Every day I look around and realize how fortunate I am, and I often think of all the little things I do to feel amazing all of the time. Some of them are obvious and some of them I discovered after a great deal of trial and error. I think a lot of them will work for others, so I am going to share them.
Let’s start with #1 on the list – Gratitude
This will take five minutes to do, and can even be done while you have your shower or are making the coffee. Fit it into your life and do it every day, and it will instantly make you feel better. It’s too easy not to try!
Action – Feel thankful and remember that not everything around you is a disaster.
Steps – Think of three things that you are grateful for. It can be big things or little ones, obvious reasons or not something anyone else would think of. Remember, it’s your list, so make it meaningful to you. There is no need to write it down, and you can make it as specific or general as you like.
Why It Makes You Feel Better – It’s so easy to get caught up in everything that is going wrong. It’s human nature to focus on the negative and completely overlook all of the good things around us. By taking a few minutes to appreciate what is going well in your life, you change your energy and start to attract more of what you want to see. It’s simple, costs nothing, and it works!
Example – My three reasons today are my health, freedom, and family. Pretty general, so I take a minute on each one to get more specific.
Health – I feel good. I am pain-free, don’t need to rely on any medication, can move and exercise and make my body take me where I need to go without giving it a second thought. I can exercise, walk, bend down to pick something up, and my digestion is good. Everything is working the way it is supposed to right now, so I am grateful for that.
Freedom – I can walk around outside, drive my car wherever I want to go, take transit somewhere, leave the house when I choose, come back when I want, live here, move somewhere else, work at one place, leave that and work somewhere else, and travel to another country if I want. That is a lot of freedom.
Family – This is one where I am extremely fortunate. I have both of my parents who I can call whenever I want, and they are doing very well and take care of themselves and each other in a wonderful way. I could just think about them and all they have done for me over the years and that fills me with enough gratitude that I don’t need anything else. I also have a genius for a brother who I can contact anytime and he will figure out whatever technology issue I am having. He is thoughtful, kind, and more intelligent than anyone else I know.
That’s my list for today, and now I feel amazing and ready to tackle the world!
Enjoy thinking about what makes you grateful. If it doesn’t feel like there is anything, then be grateful that you can see and read and breathe in this moment. We are alive, and that is the best thing of all.
