Party of one

“The reason I talk to myself is because I’m the only one whose answers I accept.”
― George Carlin

“I have never let my schooling interfere with my education.”
― Mark Twain

There is so much information out there that it can be overwhelming to process. You read something and then moments later read something that completely contradicts the first thing. What are we supposed to do? Believe everything, nothing, or something in between?

Relying on common sense and researching more than one source for important information is probably a good start, but it doesn’t end there. If it has something to do with safeguarding your health, then you owe it to yourself to find out as much as you can and then make decisions to the best of your ability.

Just remember, nothing will ever be perfect. We all make mistakes, and the important thing is to learn from them. Do a little better today than you did yesterday. Do the things you know your should, and don’t do the ones you know you shouldn’t. Pay attention to how you feel, all of the little aches and pains that foretell of something that might turn into a problem. Be aware, but not paranoid. This is a challenging world to navigate, and these indeed are challenging times. Do the best you can and continue to live your life.

Going With the Flow – Do you ever wonder why sometimes your plans unfold easily, and other times nothing seems to go right? Try planning with the moon phases and see if that helps. Today, the moon moves to its last quarter phase. This isn’t the best time to begin a major project, as the decreasing light of the moon symbolizes the descent into unconsciousness. Instead, finish up the details of what was conceived at the last new moon.

Thought of the Day – Go with the flow. Tell yourself good stories, not bad ones. Dwell in the positive, and release the negative. The day will unfold exactly as it is supposed to, regardless of your opinion of it. Accept and release struggle, because that opens you up to new possibilities. Enjoy all that comes into your life today.

“Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.”
― Roald Dahl

Being Honest

Another sunrise, another opportunity to live and be better

I have a confession. I’m not always happy.

Even though I write about the strength of the human spirit, how we can move through life with dignity and grace by accepting the world around us as it is and making ourselves a source of positivity, there are still moments when I can’t get that feeling for myself.

Sometimes I struggle with knowing that I should be doing better but I’m not. And when I feel this way, I’m not happy. I don’t like that.

Then I pivot.

Being Good With Being You

A moment in time in Costa Rica, no need to be anything other than who I am

Do you ever take the time to be proud of yourself?

Do you ever say, “ I am doing my best and that is enough right now, and I am enough” and actually mean it?

The proliferation of self-help books and courses and seminars makes me wonder if any of us think that we are doing okay without needing to be changed into someone else.

We all possess a need to be creative. We like to fix, tinker, and adjust things with the idea that they can always be better, and in ourselves we aspire to be more than who we are.

We want to do better. Our bodies should look fitter, we should read more, be more intelligent, make better decisions and have more money.

The Art of Feeling Good

I accept and I surrender to this moment. I feel good because it feels good

Feeling good means different things for different people. If you are battling an illness, then any moments of relief are times when you feel good. Relief from pain in any amount provides optimism and hope for a positive outcome.

For others, feeling good means having the freedom to do whatever they want in any moment without having to worry about what is going on with the body, expecting to have the energy to carry them through all that they choose to pursue.

Still others have no idea what it is like to feel good. They are dealing with chronic pain, grief, depression or anger.

Moving On

My last morning in Barbados – not easy to leave but always able to come back

I write often about accepting the past as having been a necessary part in our growth to become who we are meant to be. It’s a big subject that can cause a great deal of discomfort for many people.

No one said that life was going to be fair, and there are no intellectual reasons for things to happen the way they do. Life just is what it is.

There are a lot of us who still carry the wounds of days gone by, using them to limit and define who we allow ourselves to be now.

Be Who You Want to Be – Allowing

Yup – allowed this to happen! (Toronto, Ont Woodbine Racetrack August 23 2014 Jeff Bratt and Dawn Lupul get drenched with ice water. WEG/michael burns photo)

Sometimes things just seem so clear. When it is someone else’s situation, it is so easy to know exactly what they are doing wrong and how they can fix it.

When it comes to ourselves, though, it is a different story.

The funny thing is, we all need to make our own decisions and learn from the consequences. If someone is constantly telling us what we should do and how we should act, then the valuable lessons are never received.

Parents do this with children, and for the most part it is necessary. Trying to limit the amount of physical harm they do to themselves is good parenting, but at the same time lessons can be learned much more quickly when some things are allowed to happen.

As in, you only touch a hot stove once.
