#50 Lose Weight

Lose the excess weight. You don’t need it, your body doesn’t want it, and you will feel so much better!

It’s much easier to be overweight now than ever before. With the proliferation of fast food, snacking on sugar and fat-filled items, and inactivity, we are packing on more and more weight. This is a big problem.

The World Health Organization estimates that, as of 2016, 30% of the world’s population is overweight or obese.  In the United States, that number is closer to 40%. In Russia, the rate is increasing at an alarming rate, up more than 50% in the last five years to bring their total to 60% of the population being overweight and 20% considered obese.

#49 Take a Timeout

Lose yourself somewhere quiet with no one else around

Send yourself to your room or to a quiet corner where you can be alone for ten minutes. This isn’t the punishment that some parents dole out to insolent children, but a respite from the noise and chaos of daily life. Give yourself the gift today of removing yourself from all of it and turning inward for awhile.

This isn’t about meditating, it is about stepping away from the computer, cellphone, television, crowds, people close to you and from your thoughts. Great perspective can come in moments when you detach as much as possible from the world around you and give yourself permission to sit and do nothing for a few minutes.

#48 Wash Your Hands

It’s nice being with others, but it can be harmful to your health if someone is sick

This is a great habit to help keep you healthy no matter what is going on around you. Whenever you come home from the store or office or after any activity in a public place, wash your hands thoroughly and always keep them away from your face until you do.

Your exposure to the many viruses and bacteria that cause illness can be minimized if you don’t touch your face. A little bit of thought and preparation can help you limit your contact with any pathogens that are lurking in the environment trying to find a host.

#47 Feel the Love

Love the unexpected rainbow against a dark cloud

Love and gratitude are closely related emotions, and both are extremely effective in improving our physical and mental health in a multitude of ways. For some reason we tend to focus on what we feel is lacking in our lives or what we don’t like. Turn this day into one where you notice all that is right and declare your love for all of the things that you encounter.

Life will happen no matter what your perspective of it is. You can feel pleasant and appreciative inside, or you can feel bitter and persecuted. You own your thoughts, and by learning to focus on feeling love you can change your internal chemistry and feel much better about the world around you.

#46 Do Some Research

Wading through all of the research out there is like trying to see through murky water sometimes

Before the internet arrived with all of the wonderful tools it provides, encyclopedias were the source for information. They had to be updated often and took up a lot of space. While they were good for the time, they didn’t come close to the opportunity that the internet provides us to do our own fact-checking.

The ability to do research and to decide what is best for you and your family is wonderful. It can also be a bit confusing, as there is always conflicting information to try to decipher. Making assumptions based on incorrect research is dangerous, and there are a lot of flawed studies out there.

#45 Go Scent-Free

Not a perfume, just a boat on a lake. Nothing smells better than a spring day by the water

We are inundated with artificial scents. From cologne and perfume, to underarm deodorant, to the body lotion you use and the clothes that smell like a dryer sheet, you can literally stack thousands of different chemical compounds on and around yourself every day. We are perfuming ourselves into sickness.

The desire to smell like anything other than what we smell like is fascinating. While no one appreciates the strong scent of body odour, an overly strong fragrance can be just as repulsive. It’s a good time to consider all of the products you are exposing your body and nose to and see if you can lessen the artificial ones.

#44 Dry Brushing

A well-used brush! Time to invest in a new one

Dry brushing the skin is a part of the Ayurvedic tradition, its use dating back thousands of years. There isn’t a great deal of research to support the claims, but it is a simple thing that many people swear works. It’s a good therapy to try and see how it makes you feel. At the very least, it can be quite invigorating and gets you feeling ready for the day.

Some of the possible benefits include stimulating the lymphatic system and circulation, helping the body get rid of toxins, exfoliation, and reducing cellulite. It can also be very soothing as it is a form of massage.

#42 Wish for the Best

Make your life a celebration and always wish for the best. You deserve it!

We spend a lot of time thinking. We think about what happened yesterday, or ten years ago. We think about what we have to do today and what will be happening in our lives ten years from now. We think about the people in our lives and about people we only know through the media. We think constantly, and we literally become what we think.

What do you spend most of your time thinking about? Is it best-case scenarios, or do you think of worst possible outcomes? Either way, you are telling yourself stories that aren’t based in reality. When you think of the past, do you see it in the light of forgiveness and acceptance, or do you condemn everything that happened to you and all those who inflicted harm or suffering on you? Remember, you are reliving a story. Today is a good day to wish for the best and forget the rest.

#41 Drink Nettle Tea

Enjoying tea in the afternoon is a relaxing ritual with added benefits

There are a lot of different herbs in the world that have been valued for years as being nutritive and of having the ability to cure common ailments. Perhaps one of the best overall tonics that is well-tolerated by the majority of people is stinging nettle, used as a tea and medicine for thousands of years.

It may cause uterine contractions so should be avoided by pregnant women, and some people may be allergic if they have shown a sensitivity to plants in the same family. For most people though the benefits are many.
