We spend a lot of time thinking. We think about what happened yesterday, or ten years ago. We think about what we have to do today and what will be happening in our lives ten years from now. We think about the people in our lives and about people we only know through the media. We think constantly, and we literally become what we think.
What do you spend most of your time thinking about? Is it best-case scenarios, or do you think of worst possible outcomes? Either way, you are telling yourself stories that aren’t based in reality. When you think of the past, do you see it in the light of forgiveness and acceptance, or do you condemn everything that happened to you and all those who inflicted harm or suffering on you? Remember, you are reliving a story. Today is a good day to wish for the best and forget the rest.
Action – Thoughts are powerfully creative tools. The evidence of that is in everything around us, as all that exists in our material world began in the mind of someone. All of the inventions and businesses and institutions were created first as thought, and then manifested in our physical world. It can be no other way.
If you consider that your thoughts have the ability to create or destroy, then choose them wisely and think your life into the way you want it to be.
Steps – Instead of worrying about what can go wrong, imagine everything going right. Again, whichever way you think you are simply fabricating stories, so spend your energy focusing on positive tales instead of horrible ones. It can take a little practice to become aware of when your thoughts turn negative, so for today see if you can catch yourself in the act of spinning yarns of doom and gloom. Use your imagination in a more productive way.
When you wish for the best, you allow your mind to look for solutions instead of becoming lost in the problem. You become flexible to respond to the situation as it unfolds and, in wishing for a good outcome, you see the best path to take. Nothing gets blown out of proportion and you don’t allow yourself to be paralyzed by negative thinking. Positive expectations provide the breeding ground for brilliant plans.
Why It Makes You Feel Better – It is impossible to operate from a position of strength when you are feeling overwhelmed. If the story of your life is one of struggle, loss, and heartbreak it is difficult to find a reason to pick yourself up and move in a new direction. When the stories you tell yourself never have happy endings, you will not find the joy that comes from overcoming hardship and surfacing in a better place.
We all need to feel hope and a sense of power to deal with whatever life gives us. In wishing for the best, even when things feel like they can’t get any worse, you can at least maintain a sense of optimism and dream of better days ahead.
